The Snack Thief is the third in Andrea Camilleri's wonderful series starring the Sicilian detective Salvu Montalbano.

Here is a heady combination of crime, intrigue, /5. After reading all the Aurelio Zen novels by the late Michael Dibdin I became hooked on Italian mysteries.I came across Andrea Camilleri's Inspector Montalbano in the first book of the series, 'The Shape of Water'. I enjoyed it so much I bought the second book, 'The Terracotta Dog'.

Although this story is particularly plot-driven, perhaps more so than his earlier stories, The Snack Thief is most enjoyable for the portrayal of the many characters and the local flavor of the (fictional) town of Vigata. Montalbano grows on you, as does Livia.

The ending of the book was particularly noteworthy in this by: 5. The Snack Thief: When an elderly man is stabbed to death in an elevator and a crewman on an Italian fishing trawler is machine-gunned by a Tunisian patrol boat off Sicily's coast, only Inspector Montalbano suspects a link between the two incidents.

A Snack Thief?. I really love these quirky little books by Andrea Camilleri. His protagonist, Salvo Montobano (forgive spelling, I have onlly listened to his books) is. Directed by Alberto Sironi. With Luca Zingaretti, Katharina Böhm, Guia Jelo, Cesare Bocci.

An elderly merchant is found murdered and a young woman who may have been involved with him disappears the same day. Montalbano has to solve it quickly, along with finding out who's been stealing some school kids' lunches/10(4). The Snack Thief is the first Montalbano mystery to place the inspector in a context of family relationships.

Montalbano both deals with the terminal illness of his own father and takes determined steps toward becoming both a husband and an adoptive father/5(25).

About The Snack Thief “The novels of Andrea Camilleri breathe out the sense of place, the sense of humor, and the sense of despair that fills the air of Sicily.” —Donna Leon “Camilleri is as crafty and charming a writer as his protagonist is an investigator.”—The Washington Post Book World “Hailing from the land of Umberto Eco.

The Snack Thief really brings the Italian culture to life – not just the mid day snacks of the children which gives the book its title. Every character is an exaggerated (or not) Italian – talking with their hands, the way they talk and the way in which they savour their food all makes the snack thief more of a sumptuous feast than a quick.
